It'll Be A Dark And Stormy Trip To The Pub...
by Englishman intonight should be fun in weston super mare.. weston has the second highest tide in the world, and tonight is going to be the highest this year.
the tv has just announced that a 14 metre tide will peak at 20.45 gmt.
worse still, the wind is blowing from the west which will pile the sea water over the promenade into the road where i live.

Can I DA myself in a newspaper?
by meat pie inwhat do you think of this idea, has it been done?
i was thinking that if i did decide to da myself, one fun way to do it might be to place a public notice in a regional paper.
something not libelous(unfortunately), just saying that i no longer wanted to be know as one of jws because i could not reconcile the discrepancies/divide between jws organization and the bible.

Thanks very much all of you for your replies. My husband said he would work to pay for the notice(s). If I get DFd I'll definately do it. If I decide to DA I'll most likely do it. Elders keep on asking can they come and see me, see how I'm getting on. I always say. yes fine, just ring first, but none have been now for about 6 months. pity I have a very interesting file of UN stuff they might like to see.HA!After that the ad would be in.I f I do it I'll most certainly let you all know.

I'd word it better than that.It is an idea isn't it? I could also send a copy to the KH.I might well do that anyway if they DF me first. Comments please.

The Annual ``Don't Misbehave'' at Asemblies'' KM
by Room 215 ingreetings from the ``here we go again'' department.
while worldlings have only the song of the robins and the bloom of the daffodils and crocuses as harbingers of spring, jehovah's people and readers of their literature can always count on two more: the annual ``don't partake!
'' article in the watchtower, and the yearly exhortation to ``make nice at the summer's assemblies'' in the km.. in the case of the latter, the tone and content of the annual scolding is unbelievably demeaning to any responsible adult... being told to dress nice (suits and ties only, please, for the men and deresses only -- not too short ladies) not to abuse complimentary breakfasts, pool privileges and generally avoid rowdiness at the hotels where they stay-- all laced with clearly fabricated -- not to mention unattributed-- quotes from ``worldly observers amazed by our fine conduct.''.

Englishman, that was so hilarious!
Amongst my many complaints to the elders as to why I wasn't going to meetings was the attitude in these articles when they say something like,' watch your kids and purses because not everyone there is a JW'I said 'you know as well as I do that there are JW paedophiles and theives'No sensible reply.
I haven't seen the latest KM. Scan anyone please?
Last year my xfriend's tenage son got so legless on the Saturday night he couldn't get to the convention till lunchtime and was still ill. A fine witness! Just normal really IMO. -

Internet warnings in the UK?
by meat pie ini was recently visited by a jw ( he is a really nice old chap who has his own doubts) and he said 'internet' more times than you would think possible in a fairly short conversation.
either he has been told something, or there have been extra warnings against the internet at circuit assembly, co talks etc.
does anyone know if there have been extra warnings just lately?

By the pricking of my thumbs....
by Xander in...some ancient wisdom this way comes?
pulling over from another thread.... i'm curious how many have dabbled in witchcraft/spiritism after leaving the jws.
or, perhaps, before joining.. i'm curious what experiences have been had.

Yes, I had tried out seances as a teenager, got some fairly convincing results. Lived in a spooky house as a child, but a much MUCH spookier house later, '87-'91. I mentioned some of it to other witnesses, they usually were a bit scared and didn't want me to talk about it, said it would encourage the demons to talk about them, or maybe they just thought I was nuts.Well I really think I did go nutty at the time and who knows which came first the chicken or the egg? I started studying with JWs in 1995, and I was relieved that they did at least appear to believe me.Thay told me to make sure I had nothing that anyone involved in anything 'spiritistic'had given me, I said my husband had a set of tarot cards, I was told to look for them and destroy them even though they weren't mine, but that I probably wouldn't be able to find them. No I didn't find them, but they weren't mine to destroy. Don't forget that people used to stand outside cinemas to warn of the demons in the film 'The Exorcist'. Also many people still believe even the actual material the film was made on is demon posessed. I do think that JWs take this far too far, and instill a superstition-like fear in themselves and others which is hard to shake off.

What does your ID or Nick say about you?
by LyinEyes insomeone replied to a post i entered and got me thinking what others perceive about us due to the nicks or id we have chosen.
some of the nicks i am sure are just self explanatory , others are cute, or simple.
although i suspect that very many in this room, took time to think of theirs and definitly the nick holds some little secret as to who they are as a person.

I really love meat pies. Also it was common knowledge in the cong that when I went out on the ministry, I would usually buy myself a nice steak pie to eat before meeting as a present to myself 'for being good'. So if anyone who knows me is reading this, Yes its ME!

Being dis-fellowshipped or dis-associated
by Smitty infor those that are dis-fellowshipped or dis-associated: do you speak to jw's even though they know you're disfellowshipped or dis-associated?

JWinSF am I right in thinking that a DFd person is told not to speak to JWs? If I get DFd(probable) I'd just LOVE them to try that one on me. I'd laugh my socks off and ask them on what real legal authority they could say that. Oh I do hope they try that. I have been wondering why someone was warned off but I cannot see what the elders can do about it.
